Color Variance Due to Facing Materials

Q: My customer complained that the back of her jacket is discolored when she goes outside. What causes this color variance?

A: In some cases, facing materials may also be used on the back panels. This can contribute to a lighter, brighter or darker appearance than the sleeves and sides of the garment. The facing may be used on the entire back panel, or may only be present on the upper portions or shoulder areas. The color variance is usually not noticeable in normal light, but may become apparent in bright sunlight.

The weight or thickness of the fabric and the dyes used will determine the degree of color shading that occurs.
