Laundry pH

Q: I’m trying to find out the ending pH of my laundry wash formulas. Can I test it myself?

A: In most cases, the company that manufactures your laundry detergents will periodically test your pH for you. If it is not, ask it to do so. If you want to test the pH yourself, laundry test kits and instructions are available from your supplier. Typically, these kits are supplied free with the chemicals and detergents you purchase.

An easy method of checking the ending pH of a wash formula is by using a liquid pH indicator on a rag that has been laundered in the load.

A word of caution: These products may permanently stain textiles, so do not use the indicator on consumers’ clothes.
