Pipe Insulation

Q: Do I need to have my steam pipes insulated?

A: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) law requires insulation of all steam pipes below a height of seven feet. This is for your protection, since steam in these pipes can reach temperatures of more than 300 degrees F. Insulating the pipes will also keep the heat down in the plant, making it a more comfortable place to work, and reduce the amount of energy needed from your boiler, saving you fuel dollars.
