Silk Stain Fixer

Q: We received a silk dress with a light area in the front of the dress where a customer wiped up a spilled drink. Can this be improved or restored?

A: The dress may be improved by giving it a "mineral oil bath." Mix six to eight ounces of white mineral oil with one gallon of drycleaning solvent, soak the dress for a few minutes in a covered bucket, and remove the dress from the bucket. Then, place in your drycleaning wheel, lightly extract, and dry at 120 degrees F. When using this process, be sure to wear gloves and a mask in a well-ventilated area. This process will need to be repeated when the dress is cleaned again.
